This road to the top of mount Washington is very scenic. Don’t take stops when you go up, take the stops at the view point when coming down, that will help cooling down your breaks. Driving is not as tough as people say, but for us visibility was very poor due to heavy fog.
awesome ride going up and coming down. they need to upgrade their tour CD to an mp3 so it's easier for everyone to listen. The ticket to drive your own car to the mountain is very expensive. it's very cold at the summit so jacket is a must
Drove all the way here from Augusta, ME to drive the auto road only to find out, at the toll at the bottom of the mountain, that it was closed for paving. Had to spend the night in Conway (the only touristy town in New Hampshire) so we could drive it the next day. Definitely worth sticking around though because the views from Mt. Washington are surreal. Great experience.
The 2 hour van tours on the auto road are perfect. You get to view from up high, you get an hour on the summit either with extreme weather conditions or bright sunny days with spectacular views. I totally recommend the 3 hour sighting tour because you get some extra time on the summit and you get to do some hiking. My favorite tour guide is Mike because he very friendly and he knows exactly what he is doing. I also recommend this over the cog railway because the van feels more comfortable than the cog railway and the van is only $36 for 2 hour and $65 for 3 hour vs the cog railway which is $75.
O!M!G! DO NOT DRIVE THIS ROAD IF YOU ARE FAINT OF HEART! Great scenic drive to top of Mt Washington with spectacular views from summit. The road up and down is narrow, steep, and crowded. Drive down in low gear (the road smells like hot brakes). Worth the stop and cost to go up, but it gets your heart racing to drive this road.
